Halloween 2011: Help A New Mother Out

Emily asks:
I have what I hope is a question quick to answer: When are people trick-or-treating in Noe this year since Halloween falls on a Monday? Still Monday night I'm assuming? SF seems to take it's Halloween very seriously. This is my first Halloween as a mom so I'm not sure what local tradition is along these lines.

They merchants on 24th street would probably have treats starting at 4PM or even earlier for the youngsters, expect someone to confirm.

The homes around the surrounding streets, say 23rd to 25th might be ready a little later lasting up till 8PM.

The real action is usually on Fair Oaks and it gets really crowded

Another very "happening" block (with a long tradition) is Sanchez between 30th and Randall. Always ON Halloween night.

You can go out during the day; since the merchants give out candy to the schools which take the kids down 24th St.; around lunch time. Have FUN on your first Halloween with you child!!

This was great! This is my sons 1st halloween trick or treating and I heard the store vendors pass out candy on Halloween. I want to have him around other kids dressed on costumes and celebrating. Obviously Im not interested in giving my 1 year old the candy. Any other fun celebrations for the kids around the area?
