The folks at Noe Valley Pet Co. caught on to the recent brouhaha about dog poop and have a plea worth broadcasting:
Fellow dog owners[NVSF: Reader Rant: Dogs Need Places To Poo, Too]
Let's do our part to take care of our city
We all know what it's like to step in dog poop...
We all know what it's like to watch dog owners walk away without cleaning up after their dogs...
We all know how gross our streets and parks have become...
So, let's do something about it! Clean up after our dogs and encourage others to do the same.
- Bring an extra bag to share with a fellow dog owner who might have forgotten one
- Thank dog owners who clean up after their dogs
- Gently encourage dog owners to clean up after their dogs when they fail to do so
Times are tough. Let's do
what we can to take care of each other and our beautiful city!!

I live on Dolores and noticed a guy walking his dog the day before yesterday. The dog stopped, s*it on the sidewalk directly in front of my garage door and the man started walking away. I said, excuse me sir but will you clean up the mess that your dog made. He turned around, gave me the finger and said 'f*ck you faggot' and continued walking. Nice neighbors we have in Noe.
Yes, I'm wondering how one "gently encourages" a dog owner to clean up...? Suggestions?
That guy on Dolores--what did he look like? What did his dog look like? There's a guy I see who is notorious for not cleaning up, in a blatant way.
A similar incident happened to me a few weeks back. I had just arrived home when a woman walked by with her large dog. She was talking on her cell phone and her dog took a big dump on the sidewalk near the curb. As she started to walk away (still chatting on her phone), I approached her and asked her if she was going to clean up the poop. She yelled at me to back off and kept walking. I don't understand why people think it's okay to leave this on public sidewalks in front of someone elses home.
Dog owners like the assholes mentioned above will not change. They are rude, arrogant, feel above the law..
There are some like that in my area of Noe also...I keep at them and will not stop until they respect the law and clean up their dog's shit.
It looks like it's time to call out The Dog Patrol to issue citations to errant dog owners and impound their dogs until they complete a training class in civility.
My mother who lives down the street from me asked someone to clean up after their dog one day. That next morning she found excrement in her mailbox. She had no evidence the incidents were connected but it makes sense to me that they were.
There are a lot of rude dog walkers in the Noe Valley. I am especially reminded of a professional dog walker I often see around 24th and Church with two black daschunds of his own among other dogs. He routinely curses people out unprovoked. This is only one example, but based on the large number of complaints by others, they seem to constitute an offensive minority. Rude people, whether they own a dog or not will not change. Maybe rude dog owners are more visible because their rude acts are apparent.
I feel that dog owners need to clean up their PR and their dog feces.
OMG just today I was looking out my front window and saw a woman across the street get out of her Land Rover with her dog. The dog did its business on the curb and they both jumped in the vehicle and drove away. What is wrong with people? Do they have no sense of right and wrong anymore?
Maybe dogs need encouragement to clean up after themselves. Posting pictures of the carefree canine (with owner) might help prevent these presents. At the least, it would alert people on where to watch their step.
Thanks to Noe Valley pet company for their sign! If we just keep after people maybe some specific details about them or their dogs...we can humiliate them into doing the right thing eventually.
just pick up the poo yourself - and throw it at them ;)
Just kidding of course.
I make it a policy at Noe Courts to pick up my dogs poo, and any other poo I see. The sad trend is that I have been picking up a lot of abandoned dog poop lately. Cretins.
I don't see the problem with my dog pooping in a tree well or in the grass median. Afterall, it will only help the plants grow. Until someone can tell me that manure is not a verified fertilizer, my dog will continue to poop and I will not pick it up.
I'm very religious about picking up my dog's Poo, it's THE way I recycle all those unwanted SF Examiner's, I use the plastic bag for poop, and I throw the unwanted Conservative Chronicle in the Blue Recyle.
Listen, F@#$er! No one asked the tree well or grass median to be fertilized. FACT: Excess feces and urine do not act as fertilizers. Fertilize your own grass, you irresponsible dumbass!
Responsible Dog Owner
I'm glad that I'm not alone. Dog doo drove me to start a dog doo rant blog this week for my own catharsis. After reading this thread, I realize now that is a prevalent problem. Austin. Visit: http://dogdoorants.blogspot.com/
Folks I just got back from Dallas, (I took Virgin America's first flight from SFO to DFW!), where I saw lots of Dog Poo on the grass around Oak Lawn in Dallas (Dallas' Castro district), so I just want to say, We san Franciscans may not know it, but this City is heaven on the way we dog owners pick up dog's poo, as well, as our recycle!
So, let's give San Francisco a round of applause!
