Surprise! Surprise! These places actually go out of business?
this day spa has been open only a few months, but owner/operator needs to return to the midwest. all new equipment..2 full time and 4 part time employees..manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, facials, specialized waxing, spray tan, make-up, massage, inch loss wraps, eyelash extensions..(semipermanent and temporary),,dermatological facials...open 7 days a week..(please do not ask questions of employees..they do not know of this listing) just under 5 years on lease with 5 year optionNoe Valley Glow Day spa, well-shilled in the comments of our post announcing their arrival, calls it quits. Think the lease will sell to another type of business or are we doomed?

Unfortunately Glow was everything a spa is NOT: the tacky décor, the fishbowl feeling, the bored yet mean-looking staff. If they marketed themselves as a fun nail salon, they might have made it.
Quote source?
Don't get all excited, it's likely another nail salon will move in.
They say the first year is the hardest for a new business - but come on, wasn't it like two, three months?! What kind of business plan did some of these places have? And who loaned them the money? Because I, too, could use some easy cash.
Bottom line, their price point was too high. With so many high quality budget options in the neighborhood, what was the incentive to pay twice the price??? Now is not a time to be opening up superfluous luxury businesses. Duh.
Bye Bye! Can they take the Fortune Teller with them?
does anyone know when they are expected to close? i just received a gift certificate for a mani/pedi from a friend this week. kinda shady of them to sell it to her if they are going under!
The fortune teller might know...
*Please* tell me somebody told the employees about this... Color me cynical, but I can just imagine the owners deciding "well, if we let our employees know the shop will be closing, they might quit before then, and that would be SO DARN INCONVENIENT for us. I know - let's just fire them with no notice on the last day!" Bah.
Glow Day Spa is not closing. Thank you to all who come in to the spa and enjoy it. Sorry to all of those who did not. I hope that with the changes that are in the process of being implemented you will come in and have a different experience.
It is a very hard time to open a business so as I see it being supportive and giving constructive criticism is more beneficial than having a blog that negatively criticizes. We are always open to suggestions and are really interested in what the people of Noe Valley want to experience when they go to a spa.
It takes time to figure out what works and what doesn't and Glow Day Spa doesn't want to be like all of the other nail places on 24th. We want people to come and enjoy their time to themselves. And many people do.
The people who have such strong opinions about the salon should please let us know what we could do to make it worth it for you to come.
Think positive! We want to become a part of your community not be ostracized from it. We think that we can offer something that other places do not but without your help we do not know what those other things are.
Sorry to all those who thought we were closing. As a matter of fact we will be doing Champagne Spa Pedicures for the up coming holidays. And we will also be having a grand opening toward the end of the year. Please come in and give us a suggestion that will help us improve.
In advance thank you for all of your input.
Best of luck to you. As some of us are well aware, it's a lot easier to take cheap shots at a new business trying to make it in a challenging environment, than actually running one and putting your own money on the line.
I think that the suggestions are in the comments. Your prices are outrageous. If you lower them, I would come there. The other nail salons in Noe do an excellent job for a much cheaper price. There must be a price incentive. Given the ambiance of the salon, I would be willing to pay possibly $10 more dollars for a mani pedi than I do at my normal place, which would be $32. More than that, and I think you're kind of ripping people off. I think if you heed this advice then you will have A LOT more customers come in, including myself.
