February 2013

Front Page: Cookie Time calls it quits and the Voice explores the long-standing food truck debate; Noe Valley Merchants recognized for their efforts to help small businesses accommodate handicapped patrons without getting slapped with a nuisance lawsuit; NV is full of married cheaters; Noe Valley Democratic Club gets an influx of moderate members.

Letters: The Noe Valley Ministry is looking a little neglected while renovations stall (renovations are expected to resume in March); a re-print of the letter from victim on 23rd St who narrowly escaped her attacker; Mary Isham's family seeks donations for her cancer treatment.

Crime: The Fair Oaks rapist is convicted and sent to jail for 373 years to life; the copper thief goes to jail for stealing water; the SFPD releases a sketch of the 23rd St. attacker.

Cost of Living in Noe: 25 homes sold in the last 2 months of 2012, including the $3.8 million contemporary home at 4529 25th St; condos are pricey - and selling like hotcakes.

Letters: Newcomer to Noe has tons of suggestions for how things could better; remembering Missy, a sweet dog; a touching recollection of working at the Noe Bar & Grill during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.

Features: Meth-addicted copper thief's 24th Street house sells; stolen packages.

Cost of Living in Noe: Bidding wars are still driving up home sale prices, as much as 4-13% over asking. Rent? $5,500/month on the high side for a 2 bedroom.

Rumors: Music in the Park was a hit, but no mention of how much it raised (Philz had a great day); the commercial space we've been watching at The Luxe will be a property management office, not retail; "by Halloween" Heliotrope will post an announcement that they're moving (Oh wait, they did that already); DavidsTea opening Oct 27; a Holey Bagel bagel "tastes better than it looks;" Chris Cosention of Incanto wins Top Chef Masters; Vietnamese-Thai fusion restaurant "appears to be ready to open" - or not. Farmer's Market reports a 52 person surge in attendance.

Pizza Day and Mayoral Forum

Two upcoming neighborhood events via the Friends of Noe Valley:

Pizza Day - August 24 

As you may recall, Friends of Noe Valley organized the Noe Valley Garden tour earlier on this year. Part of this event, which raised money to benefit James Lick School and the Upper Noe Recreation Center Garden, was also a commitment by Paxti’s Pizza to sponsor the event by hosting a Pizza Day. The day has arrived!

Mark your calendar – Wednesday, August 24th to order or stop by Paxti's on 24th Street for a delicious pizza pie! Ten percent of all proceeds will be added to the money raised by the Garden Tour.

Mayoral Forum - August 25

Supes Race: District 8 Candidate Debate, Round 2

The Noe Valley Democratic Club is sponsoring a second debate in the 2010 District 8 Supervisor race. Bill Hemenger, Rafael Mandelman, Rebecca Prozan, and Scott Wiener will all be there. You can submit questions same-day, or in advance to moderator Jary Larsen.
