File this under "all good things must come to an end": After 36 years, the beloved 24th St. Cheese Co. is closing. Owner Charles Kung is looking to sell the business and in the meantime everything in the store is 30% off. Judging from the small crowd that was there today, plenty of folks are looking to stock up on their favorites including wine, chocolate, pasta and other things that pair well with cheese.
Here's hoping someone does buy the business - Noe Valley needs a good cheese shop. The store will be open until the cheese runs out, or someone buys the business.
Not to be cheesy but thanks for 36 great years, Charles - and see you around the neighborhood!

Your headline in quite misleading ---Mr. Kung is selling not closing!
Not the best customer service, bad attitude, from both the owner and his employees.
Hopefully the new management starts fresh.
I never had a bad experience and love going here for so many reasons. it’s been a delight and thank you mr kung.
The Cheese Company has been around longer than 36 years. I remember going there as a child in the 70s. My best friend was the owners' daughter. But sad to see it closing.
I've had rude service and good service (I think from the owner) from here, but the rude service put me off enough to stop going. Last year I asked if service was holding up during the pandemic and the owner said that his business was actually doing really really well. Once I asked for a small portion of hard cheese and the woman who cut it did so at such an insane angle to upsell me on twice as much cheese than I asked for. That was when I stopped going.
Sad to hear all the negative comments for a closing business. I had terrific service, but then I took the time to be polite and respectful and chat with the staff a bit when they weren't too busy. They sell a fantastic collection of well cared for cheeses and know what they are selling. Also some fun specialty foods. This shop is one reason I bought my house in the neighborhood 15 years ago and I will miss it a lot.
I'm hopeful someone will be interested in buying the shop and maintaining it. If there are any rumors of that I'd love to hear more.
We will miss Mr KUNG and his expert advice on cheese. Thank you for all your wonderful recommendations in the 36 years you have been in Noe Valley as a born and raised Noe Valley Girl we will miss you!
