Regarding the Anne Fougeron remodel, the buyers & their architect knew they couldn't change the front of the house because of the historical significance so they paint, basically, the whole front solid black??? Yes, it's their house but, to me, it feels like someone is thumbing their nose at the neighborhood's preservation effort.
Annon @ 10:50am….Painting out the fronts of Victorians, Edwardians and later housing stock black or dark gray has been a fad in Noe Valley for the last 5 or so years. Most of them look dreary enough already but as a professional house painter I can tell that east, west and especially south exposures bear the brunt of UV light. Dark colors fade quicker and fail faster. The black fad seems to be unique to Noe Valley. Don't notice it so much in other neighborhoods.
