We just received word from a neighbor that Pasta Pomodoro at 4000 24th St will close for good after today's service. We called to confirm, and were told that the owner of the building is planning major renovations. At this point there are no plans to reopen at this location. The staff didn't know any other details, and stated they were given notice three days ago. We'll post more when we have more info.
Update (10/29): No word yet from Pasta Pomodoro corporate, but we did do a quick permit search.
We walked by this afternoon and workers are clearing the space. There's a new sign on the door stating they "lost their lease" and to visit other locations. The parking space permit is listed for 1090-1092 Noe Street and so we looked up that address. Sure enough - a construction permit was filed in May: "PARTIAL VOLUNTARY SEISMIC UPGRADE AT GROUND FLOOR ONLY, NEW SIDING & REPAINT EXTERIOR WALL." Partial, sure, but there are nine special inspections required. This is work is likely to comply with SF's Mandatory Soft Story Program.

I've noticed that the corner buildings in the neighborhood are being required to do earthquake retrofitting, mandated by the city. I suspect that is probably what is behind this.
Wow, this really sucks. I get takeout from this place every other week, at minimum. If their prices were too low, they could have raised them and I would bet that they'd still get a good sized crowd. Really shocked as this place didn't look like it was hurting for business.
Earthquake renovation? Massive rise in the rents?
I am saddened by this. This is my husband and my "go to place" for Verdure, Minestrone and Salmon Salad. Delicious and reasonably priced. It was always so nice to see all of the kids and their families. Where will they go now?
No doubt some trendy hipster expensive restaurant will come in to take care of the googles, facebooks, and twitters of Noe Valoey.
I've lived within a 5 minute walk of this P.P. since it opened and, quite frankly, we almost never go any more. It's just not that good.
Just walked by right now -- 6:00 p.m. Thursday 10/30/14 -- peered in and saw not only that all fixtures had been taken out but also three decent-sized rats climbing about / around what used to be the kitchen area.
No big deal I suppose, as rats are common here in Noe Valley -- have been for decades -- although realtors, home-owners who are selling and landlords renting probably don't talk too much about this . . .
Real Foods location would be a great new spot for them!? Sad that that's so unlikely to happen.
Keep in mind that earthquake retrofitting is a serious thing and ALL property owners should be doing it.
The typical soft story of every single building on 24th St., if not reinforced, will completely collapse or suffer serious damage in a major quake.
So, you still want to be sitting there with your pasta and pinot grigio when that happens?
I'm glad. That place was not good and barely could be called Italian. And it's a chain to boot. Yay!!!
