Just For Fun has upped its game. In addition to perennial giant nutcrackers, a giant menorah and mechanized window displays of winter wonderlands, they have added the parklet to the mix. Other parklets around the city are sedate in comparison, as a walk this evening on Valencia and also 22nd St proved (unless you like
viewing a football games on tiny bean bags).
Murphstahoe agrees.
Well, I'm not really a big fan of the "holiday" music blaring out of their speakers on the public sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteSeems kinda crude and garish.
i agree. i like to walk down the street in complete silence. keep down the talking while you're at it. i'm off to go throw eggs at the new cookie truck and yell at people moving into new apartments telling them how much their ruining my neighborhood. I can't wait until Christmas is over so i can start complaining about New Years decorations and how Easter has become too much about Jesus and/or Bunnies.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Typical Cranky Noe Neighbor
me three
ReplyDeleteWell, at least we know that anon @8:55 is being sarcastic and joking.
ReplyDeleteBut I as anon 1 is being serious.
walking past the card shop is like walking past a cheap mall store blaring out crappy holiday tunes.
I like the music, i like that they went out of their way to decorate that parklet / add some lights.
ReplyDeleteWho cares what Murphy thinks!! He's only lived here a couple of years and now he's the authority on Noe?? Don't think so.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love you anon @6:52. I agree completely.
ReplyDeleteHe's a newbie to Noe Valley and from the suburbs at that. Hardly has any credentials to be qualified.
Still think he's bitter over the failure to close off Noe St. to make that stupid so called plaza. He's a sore loser at that, and really doesn't understand urban design issues nor urban traffic patterns at all.
Thanks for your comment!
Who's the bitter one, anon @7:32? You sound like an angry grump. By any chance did you feature heavily in the video shot during a community meeting about said street closure?
ReplyDeleteHow does a post about holiday lights bring out all the jerks?
nothing like message boards to bring out the best in neighbors
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas tree at the parklet by Martha & Bros. coffee shop on 24th Street is an example of political correctness gone wrong. A Christmas tree with a Jewish star (Star of David) at the top of the tree instead of an angel or a regular ornamental star is not appreciated by me as a Christian. I am sure it is not appreciated by those who practice Judaism as well. An angel or star is placed at the top to symbolize the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity. If the city wanted to do this correctly, they would have placed a Christmas tree and Hannukah tree side-by side, or a menorah decoration next to the Christmas tree. This is offensive, shows ignorance and disrespect to different religions and its symbols, and needs to be taken down or redecorated.
ReplyDeleteSomeone can correct me if I am wrong - but I don't believe the City put the tree at Martha's...
ReplyDelete"a Christmas tree and Hannukah tree side-by side . . ."
ReplyDelete*and* a Festivus pole for the rest of us!
One more "Cranky Noe Neighbor" down.
ReplyDeleteThe tree was put up by the owner/employees of Martha's not by the city. Great way to keep the "faiths".
ReplyDelete@9:43 it might behoove you to learn a little history before posting rants (um, hey, this advice can be universally applied...)
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas tree, or Tannenbaum, has roots in pagan Germanic tradition. So whatever people want to do with a Christmas tree is really OK and in the meantime you really need to get over it.
@ 11:22 AM: love it!
