Robbie sent us a tip that
Mi Lindo Yucatan is closing, and the super-generic sign on the window confirms it. Before the present incarnation, owner Victor Juarez ran Legume (Mexican) and then Alcatraces (Creole) at the same location. (He also owns Casa Mexicana down the street.) It's been 10 years since opening Legume, so maybe that lease is finally up. Or maybe another of Juarez's creations is imminent. Stay tuned.
Where am I gonna get my Pazole now?? :(
ReplyDeleteTRAGEDY! We brought many friends to this place because it was consistently delicious and inexpensive. The specials were always spot-on. Our theory for why the place was always oddly empty is that it wasn't snooty enough for (*other, but not us of course*) Noe Valley yuppies. :'(
ReplyDeletesorry to see it go but we really need a place like the Slow Club. something that has a great open feeling to it, provides a place to have great food and drinks and hang out for a while. nothing like that in the area.
ReplyDeleteany way that we could get The Peaks bar to close down too? and finally get rid of those loud-ass bikers?
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame, I love going there for lunch. Deliciously spicy, and fresher and a bit lighter than most Mexican restaurants. I also loved that it was guaranteed to be not very busy at lunch, even on weekends, although obviously that's a bad sign for the business. The woman running the place at lunch has always been so friendly.
ReplyDeleteSince you mention Casa Mexicana, why is Noe Valley's only taqueria so flavourless? Some days I'm too lazy to walk over the hill to the Mission or the Castro for a proper burrito, but Casa Mexican always disappoints.
And Noe Valley's Casa Mexicana is constantly getting low scores from the health inspection. Most of the time it is for not keeping food at the proper temp. I have personally experienced bad food issues from that place. Never going again.
ReplyDeleteIf they had any veg entrees it might have made it here. Gotta know your demographic, people.
ReplyDeleteBottom line, other than a few dishes the place wasn't that good. Food is/was flavorless at both establishments, probably because the workers hate the boss. It's too bad, because this neighborhood needs a good Mexican/Salvadoran restaurant (luckily they're not too far down the hill).
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of Casa Mexicana, I did get a small cockroach peeking out of my super taco one time - after I had already eaten half of it. That was a couple of years ago, but any wonder I haven't been there since?
Bummer, i liked the place. A little pricey but good.
ReplyDeleteI went here once and thought it bland and expensive for what it was. It could possibly be that other folks agree with me, and that's why it's closing... not the lack of a hip factor.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'
I never tried it. Based on my bad experience at Casa Mexicana I stayed far, far away.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why Noe Valley doesn't have a decent burrito place. The customers for Glen Park's La Corneta Taqueria are often lined up out the door.
I noticed that the "closing" signs were down today. Has anyone heard that they've changed their mind? I have my fingers crossed that they do change their mind.
ReplyDeleteJust talked to them - they're closing at the end of the month. The employee didn't know any more than that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Juarez is closing the restaurant before that pro-labor non-profit comes with a news crew for a demonstration in front of this shop, too.
ReplyDeleteToo bad...I like that place. I liked it better when I could have a beer or sangria with my meal though...seems like they lost their liquor license a couple months ago, maybe that negatively impacted the business.
ReplyDeleteI just had my last lunch there. Delicious pescado yucateco, nicely spiced and well cooked. There were only five covers at lunch that I saw, such a shame.
ReplyDeleteThe lady who's always so nice at lunch confirmed they were closing Sep 30.
Although I ate there only once every 3-4 months, I liked the place... and so did other people I've taken there. Shame. I'll miss the place.
ReplyDeleteI was there last Saturday and was surprised the had no beer to offer. The server wouldn't tell us why.
Isn't this the same restaurant that supplied food to the Valley Tavern? I'm definitely sad to see that go. The girls at Mi Lindo Yucatan are always so nice. (And I agree that the burrito place is a huge, stingy on the salsa disappointment.)
ReplyDeleteCasa Mexicana could be the worst taqueria in the city
ReplyDeleteAgreed that it was bland and overpriced... ongoing theme of 24th st. restaurants.
