Tidbits: 24th Street Updates

While we weren't watching Raquel Settles Metalsmith opened up at 4128 24th Street -- once destined to be Noe Soup and before that part of the BJ Droubi Empire. The tiny jewelry store carries one-of-a-kind handmade items (earrings/necklaces made from antique glass buttons from the UK, for instance) and also does repairs.

Other happenings on 24th Street over the last few weeks:

• Two spaces are being painted (and no longer have For Rent signs): the old J+J Market and Bespoke. Workers on site were unable to provide any info.
• The former Urban Cellars storefront is also showing signs of life as it edges closer to becoming Noe Valley Wine Merchants -- plasterers set up shop inside this week. License still pending, BTW.

Moving: Bespoke

Via comments and Twitter we learn that Bespoke is packing up for richer pastures in Pacific Heights. From their blog:

After well over a year, we've found our new home. We realized very early on that we were going to outgrow our small shop over here in Noe Valley. We've needed more room for our mechanical services and for our fitting services and VO2 testing not to mention storage and a real office. This new space fits the bill in every category. The new address is 2843 Clay St. We will continue to update the blog as our time-line develops.

Those of you in Noe Valley have been very supportive of us and we appreciate it very much. The local merchants, our clients and neighbors have played an integral part in helping us build a business we're very proud of. We hope to see you all visit us in our new home even if we are a little further away.

7x7 Sends A Love Letter To Noe Valley

7x7’s May 2009 issue features Noe Valley in the Neighborhoods section. We’re happy to see they ventured beyond 24th St (not to mention south of Symphony Hall). Huzzah! Among the highlights:

Toast (3991 24th St.): “All-day brekkie treats…”
Bespoke (4100 24th St.): “The real specialty…is the custom ride.”
Contigo (1320 Castro St.): “…artisanal hams and Catalan flatbreads…”
Noe Valley Recreation Center (295 Day St.): “…the swankiest park in the city.”
Successories (3932 24th St. – in back of Lisa Violetto): “…one-of-a-kind rings and pendants…”
Clay Oven (1689 Church St.): “…less slumdog, more millionaire.” [Ed.--Did they really say that?]
Mobu (1605 Church St.): “…ballet to yoga to bellydance.”

7x7 also mentions the upcoming Whole Foods, and claims no fewer than five new restaurants have sprouted in our 'hood. We count Contigo, City Grill, Basso (Yelp), the soon-to-open Noeteca… and anyone know what the other might be?

Bonus: No mention of cheap nails/waxing salons.
