The block has through it's own turned over a Flower Shop, Twin Peaks property real estate and re-do Star Magic for Easy Breezy, Russo's Music and Sean's Mens clothing. I'd say all in all it is a win for the neighborhood.
Tried it opening day! Not so great, I'm not sure what's in the yogurt it has a weird nasty tang with a bad after taste... I'd prefer store bought ice cream vs this... Sad to say, I wonder how long the shop is going to last?!! Yikes
I thought it was totally good. Not chemically at all. I think they just use Strauss. The only thing that really really disappointed me is that they said that they were going to have non-dairy yogurt and they didn't.
I think it's great that we have a yogurt place, but I did feel it was over-priced for what you get. A single, small dollop with no toppings was $3.50. Also disappointed in the limited flavors -- was hoping for more. No peanut butter? No coconut? Sorry to complain, but I was so excited they were coming, and this did not meet my expectations. Still, better than a realtor!
Has no one complaining on here been to a self-serve yogurt shop before? These comments remind me of Yelp with its bunch of whiney babies passing sweeping judgment over restaurants because of little personal preferences...
First, the yogurt tastes "tangy" because this is NOT ice cream like a dairy queen, this is REAL, NATURAL, PLAIN YOGURT like you would buy at the grocery store, that they add some sugar to and freeze into a creamy consistency. If you don't like the tang, you won't like anything here, ever, that's just what a yogurt shop is! When I went they did have a classic frozen custard, which is much more like "ice cream" and doesn't have the tang so you can get that in the future.
Second, I eat a lot of frozen yogurt, I love it and I'll say the price is on par with every other yogurt place I've been to. They charge something like $0.50/oz and other places I've gone to are all in the $0.45-0.55/oz price range. A bowl of ice cream at bi-rite with a couple toppings is easily $6+ so why complain about the cost of this? Their price may be on the higher end of the average, but they are running an eco-friendly business with all natural ingredients in an affluent neighborhood of SF, it's justified.
Lastly, all yogurt places rotate their flavors! Did you really think the 4 flavors on the wall right now are the only flavors they'll ever sell? Jeez, calm down and give this place a little time to settle in and get their stuff together. I'm sure they will rotate in flavors so that every time you visit at least one flavor is to your liking. Maybe if you were nice and asked, they'd even put out a suggestion box for people to put their ideas in.
I love Noe, I've lived here a long time, and I'm happy to see some new places finally moving into 24th street. We need to support these new businesses because that will attract others to come here as well!
Hello, anon, 6:48. I'm anon. 4:22 from yesterday. Yes, of course most people have been to self-serve yogurt places before. And I would bet that most of us "whine-y babies" don't need instruction on what yogurt is supposed to taste like!! For me, it's not the amount of money; it's the value you get for that money. And for my money, Easy Breezy is pricey. Yes, of course Bi-Rite costs more. But it's a much better value in my opinion -- no comparison.
I would love to see this blog as a forum for people to exchange ideas, pass on information, and politely voice their opinions -- not attack others because their opinions may differ. We all want to see Noe and its businesses succeed -- that goes without saying. But because of the price, I'll probably go to EB once a week instead of every day. So although I'll support them, I would support them more if their pricing were in line with other yogurt places.
I too love yogurt and Noe, and like you, I've lived here a long time (nearly 20 years). I just happen to think that Easy Breezy's cost is out-of-whack for the amount of yogurt you get. Is that a sin? Can I please voice my opinion without a mean retort?
Also, no rainbow sherbet, what kind of place is this? I am unsatisfied with the lack of my favorite things in this brand new shop. I agree with the rest of my fellow neighbors in saying "nice try sneaking one past us quaint local yogurt shop." I also am pretty sure they are using Oreos instead of Hydrox, what gives?
Thanks to all my fellow neighborhood grumps for sending out the battle cry for this not at all ridiculous, totally okay venting of what is wrong with a week old local business.
Love always,
Typical Cranky Noe Neighbor
p.s. whats next, a parklett? sheesh. and the parking? don't get me started...
On behalf of Friends of Noe Valley, I wish Easy Breezy good luck on their opening.
The best way to advocate for the types of businesses we want on 24th St. is to vote with our dollars. Whether it be banks, clothing stores, restaurants, or yogurt shops--we need to support the genre of shops we value. If you want another ice cream/yogurt shop to move in to the neighborhood, support Easy Breezy and competition will materialize. . .
yeh!

ReplyDeleteExactly. it won't last. weird, chemical taste.
ReplyDeleteRude. This isn't Yelp.
ReplyDeleteI liked it. Simple, cheap and adds to the character of the neighborhood. Nice space.
Oh, so we aren't allowed to have an honest and critical comment here, if it differs from yours?
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 6:24? Seriously?
It's not rude, It's all upfront and honest.

Tried it. pretty bland flavors, IMO, and overpriced.

All I can say is it's a great addition to the neighborhood...thankfully not another real estate office or nail shop.

It's frozen yogurt, people, not ice cream. Different beast. different taste.
ReplyDeletePrices are on par with frozen yogurt prices elsewhere. Cheaper, even.
I'm happy to not have another nail salon in that space and will patronize the store.
Went there last night - liked it a lot! Will head back again for sure.
ReplyDeletevery happy to have this in the 'hood.
