Announced: First Republic Bank

Rumor proves true: First Republic plans to open at 3901 24th St on the corner of Sanchez. Over the past fifteen years this space has provided quick service food from Juice-It, Belgano's and Tuttimelon. Now Noe Valley is set to host another bank pending conditional use approval from the Planning Commission on May 17th.

Comments for/against should be directed to Planner Tom Wang at (415)558-6355. Case no. 2011.1372C. We'll post more information next week when the application is posted online.

  1. I suppose a similar rule for banks/title companies, and nail salons in Noe as there is for restaurants(one out/one in) is unrealistic but I was hoping for something a little more exciting on the main drag.

  2. Just what we need -- I agree - how boring!!

  3. How depressing :( Is it worth calling and saying that we don't need any more banks or title companies?

  4. I'm with all of you. Jeeesh!!

  5. We need to call to express our disapproval. ANOTHER bank? On a high traffic corner? Lame.

  6. Why would anyone want to come to Noe Valley anymore? 24th Street has evolved into a series of banks, realtors and title companies. Just breaks my heart to see yet another one come in. I find myself going to other neighborhoods now to shop for many essentials. Very sad.

  7. I for one am SO EXCITED! First Republic is a great, local bank with wonderful customer service (I've been using them for years) and I'm so happy to have them in the neighborhood. YAY!

  8. Hey people! you forget this is a free market system. This bank is as legitimate as any other business.

If it doesn't serve the community well, it will fail.

    Stop complaining.

  9. To anon 10:40 -- this is a forum for Noe Valley residents to voice their opinions, just as you have just expressed yours. (And just as Charley Z. did, except he or she did so in a very nice way.) Ordering people to STOP COMPLAINING is a bit imperious, isn't it? Everyone has a right to his or her own feelings. Telling people who politely expressed their opinions how to think just because it's different from your viewpoint is not very neighborly -- some might say rude.

  11. Boycot this bank! The LAST thing Noe Valley needs is another bank, real estate office, or nail salon! Wiener, where are you?!?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree. A boycott is in order! Why isn't Weiner doing his job that we voted him to do? He should be on 24th street striking down as many new businesses as possible! I feel it is only write that myself and Anonymous 11:57 chain ourselves to the empty storefront until someone with enough money comes along and opens a store that we approve of. That seems only fair. Why should people be allowed to come into our neighborhood and open banks? What is this, communist China?

  13. Your wonderful sarcasm reeks of brutal honesty.

    Thank you for that.

    totally agree.

  14. Yeah, I agree! 24th Street will be so much more neighborhoody when it's finally full of financial service chains that shutter their doors at 5pm.

That's why I left the FiDi after all; I heard Noe was going to be more of a sterile ghost town in the evening.

All you new transplants who smugly argue that something is better than nothing might want to be careful what you "wish" for...

  15. I'm not a transplant, but a NV resident and homeowner now for 27 years. So I can comment with some sense of knowing the neighborhood.

24th St. is not "full" of financial services. Far from it. Saying it will become that way is just rhetoric.

24th St. is quite active in the evenings. Pure fact.

    I wish the bank well.

  16. So hard to resist making fun of person who called it "FiDi."

Also, i don't think anyone is wishing the empty store fronts become banks, but it is becoming a bank, so we welcome them. Getting all bent out of shape isn't going to make it turn into the Regal Beagle or whatever you kids are watching these days.

  18. Yay! First Republic. They are a great bank and I can't wait!

  19. First Republic is a great bank (with headquarters in San Francisco) that is well-suited to the neighborhood. More importantly, their branches have free cookies!

  20. I live on the south side of Noe and about a year ago I left BOA to join First Republic due to recs from friends. Well, I'm very happy I made the switch, because the banking experience is truly top notch and you would only know what I'm talking about if you tested it out yourself. The reason I'm jazzed about first republic opening in Noe is because the vast majority of their locations are in downtown and this would add a huge convenience to my life. I understand that a bank isn't as exciting as a new hip restaurant, but if you were to ever join the growing
"first republic nation" you'd appreciate what this new location offers.
