What Noe Wants: Next Mayor of SF
With Gavin Newsom on his way to Sacramento, San Francisco Supervisors will select an interim Mayor in January and voters will get to weigh in for a full-term mayor in 2011. Who should run the City? Should the interim Mayor stick around after the election? So far the only serious candidate to announce is former D8 supervisor Bevan Dufty, but many names have been floated for the interim including Tom Ammiano and current Board President David Chiu.
Enter NextMayorSF.com, to "keep you informed on the process for selecting our next mayor and to give you a forum to express your thoughts on who the next mayor should be and the direction they should take the City." So far the site features a handful of videos of people you may recognize from the hood, and the shorts are filmed (mostly) in the park on 24th St across from Martha & Bros.
Hmm.... Bufty for Mayor. We've seen him in action this year... is that what we want?
What is going on here. This guy, whoever he is, doesn't know what he is talking about. How did he make it on to your blog? And your anti-"bufty" diatribe is off the wall. Who is the "we" who have "seen him in action this year?" This blog is losing any credibility it might have had in the past.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @7:19 you crack me up. Instead of picking on the dude in the video, say what you think! Me? I like Bevan, although I was pretty bummed that he didn't stand up for the plaza trial. Still, I'll vote for him as mayor. I think his heart is in the right place and he's way better than the alternatives.
ReplyDeleteHow many of you have objectively watched Dufty in action, where you had no stake or preference in the outcome? THAT is what you should base your opinion on. And having gone to a number of various neighborhood meetings over the years, the first one being his very first meeting as a brand new supervisor, I was increasingly uncomfortable, and then appalled at his behavior. He cares about himself, first and foremost, and the City only as a means of furthering his own ambition. THe comments I actually heard him utter when he thought he was out of earshot of the attendees at that first meeting were completely disrespectful and dismissive of the constituents who attended that meeting. Some of those people had legitimate questions about various neighborhood issues (parking, graffiti) and while he looked appropriately thoughtful during the meeting, the minute he stepped out he asked one of the organizers "do I really need to care about any of these issues? Are there any 'heavy hitters' here tonite?" Well that set a tone, I'd say. And the next time I saw him at another community meeting he was boasting about how he got to impress his new boyfriend by bringing him to a 49ers game in the owner's box and convincing Mrs. York to give the boyfriend funds for a pet project. Undue influence?? He frequently brought his baby to meetings, which would be laudable if it weren't such blatant pandering to say nothing of the fact that he was clearly more interested in the baby than in listening to what was going on. He frequently asked people to repeat themselves as he kept being distracted, as parents often are. Other attendees had to arrange for child care on those evenings; the least a Supervisor could have done was show those constituents the same respect. And on and on and on. I am not even much involved in community goings-on, yet these are the things I've witnessed. To say nothing of his proclivity to "dress up" and appear at as many Castro parties as possible, and then boast about how great it is to be invited to so many....
ReplyDeleteNext Mayor?? How embarassing.
What is going on here! Your arrogant shrill militant 16-word manifesto against Bevan Dufty is off the hook?!? You can't fool me by phrasing it as a question for the neighborhood. I don't understand question marks?
ReplyDeleteWho is "we"? Does "we" include Diamond Heights or only Noe Valley? What about the parts of Noe Valley that are really more the Mission? What do you mean by "run" and "City"? Which city? Who are these "people" in the "hood" that I may "recognize"?
How many generations has your family lived in Noe Valley? And do you own real estate? This is how we will evaluate your credibility. Thank you.
Dennis Herrera is a pretty serious candidate, as serious as Dufty is anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, the empty RF storefront is CERTAINLY the biggest issue we have in NV. Who gave this David zero the mic anyway?
ReplyDeleteWe're electing a mayor of San Francisco, not the mayor of Noe Valley.
