Opening: La Boulange--November 16
In case you missed it on Twitter, La Boulange is set to open "in 9 days." And while they won't have sidewalk seating, they'll have parking for at least 2 bicycles.
When we walked by today, the floors were done, the Frenchie patisserie cabinets were in place and it looks like they just might open on November 16th.
Update (11/16): From Twitter: "La Boulange de Noe opens Tuesday, November 17 From 4pm to 6pm... Join us for a taste and a toast to celebrate."
[NVSF: Protested: La Boulange de Noe Valley]
La Boulange has the best croque monsieur sandwiches I've ever had. I am really excited for this place to open. We need it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait! It should add more life to 24th Street. Yeah! Bravo et bienvenue!
ReplyDeleteDear La Boulange:
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please consider having an outdoor seating area! The dogs of Noe Valley will thank you.
Sincerely,
An avid outdoor eater
So happy to have Boulange here in Noe! Love their grab-and-go baguette sandwiches!
ReplyDeleteDelighted to have a new business that meets the needs of the neighborhood instead of another nail salon or coffee shop!
Welcome Boulange!!
Whaddaya mean, "[not another] coffee shop" ... A cafe that stays open past 8 p.m. that is not Starbucks would be most welcome, in my book.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the sidewalk seating they originally said they'd have? Did some NIMBY or "no change" people get it halted? Not a single cafe on 24th has outdoor tables... and perching on a bench trying to balance your coffee, snack, and newspaper or laptop doesn't count. Unfortunately, I think I read somewhere that they would not be open late -- 8 pm may be optimistic...
ReplyDeleteI do think the benches at Starbucks, Bernies and Marthas ALL would qualify as outdoor seating...We dont need more tables. The sidewalks are too narrow. Ever try to walk past Marthas on a busy morning with the benches full, strollers all over the place and slobbering dogs?
ReplyDeleteIt's not always pretty.
Why not put the outdoor seating on Sanchez?
ReplyDeleteI agree that 24th is too fucking crowded as is, what with dogs/strollers/toddlers/people stopping and talking IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALK, but I really do like the idea of outdoor seating. So why not just put some tables on the Sanchez side of La Bou?
It's unfortunate and probably quite rude, but there are times I'll be walking on 24th and several moms with strollers will STAY in the middle of the sidewalk and NOT bother to move themselves or their strollers to one side. The seem to feel entitled to the whole fucking sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteI kinda hope some of those experiments in closing streets to cars worked out, because it sure would be fun to have that on the Noe stretch of 24th St. It's a neighborhood ideal for walking in, or lounging in tables/chairs/benches in, but 24th corridor is the only real commercial area and it's feeling pretty squeezed in lately. Entire sidewalks can be used for seating, if the road can be used for walking/biking. The adjacent streets will clearly have to take the diverted traffic, but considering how few cars there are compared to 24th st., I think there's room for that.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Rolf - unnecessary stroller gridlock is baffling. The mass blondage here is as thoughtless/imperceptive as they are stereotyped to be (and they're not alone). I also do not like to see seating in the sidewalk, particularly on both sides of the sidewalk, as in front of Martha's, for instance. Always find myself squeezing between coffee addicts and their dogs/kids/strollers that they think are OK to allow in the middle of the sidewalk while they discuss pablum.
ReplyDeleteAs far as closing 24th Street to traffic - go for it; you're an idiot if you drive further than a block on it in the first place most times of they day. :)
re: crowded sidewalks...
ReplyDeleteeasy answer. Remove the parking on 24th street and extend the sidewalk.
