Announced: Pixie Hall Studios

Andiamo's Deli has "gone fishing" and a new sign proclaims Pixie Hall Studios, Art Classes for Children is "coming soon." No more information available at this time. But the real question: where are you going to get your meatballs?

  1. Wow...can we get a running tally of Noe Valley's empty storefronts? Gotta be around a dozen now, huh?

  2. Well, this storefront has been all but empty for the last 5 years, the guy was never even open. I was always fascinated by what goodies and treats must lay inside - is it so good that he can just show up whenever he pleases and make make a fortune in 8 hours?

I drove by once and it was opened, so I immediately pulled over and went inside. It was like a third world bodega, I've have higher end experiences in Tijuana liquor marts, I have no idea how it managed to hang on. It can only go up from here -

  3. Where were you? I got my lunch there once in a while. If you had to drive by to get to this place, I guess you weren't living here the last 5 years, so to say "the guy was never even open" is, shall we say, not entirely precise.

"It was like a third world bodega, I've have higher end experiences in Tijuana liquor marts" - OK, now I don't know if you're trying to insult a now-gone local spot, Mexican culture, or principles of good grammar.

I don't think that place was ever set up as a "higher end experience", BTW - just a local deli that gathered more dust than was worth cleaning as retirement beckoned to its owners. Heaping insults on a place like that is kind of like heaping insults on an old man who can't get around much any longer. It was what it was. Why are some people under the impression that everything in Noe Valley has to be tony, youthful and fashionable? Leave that to Marina or Pacific Heights.

  4. "Mulls" sounds like a typical know-it-all that either spent only Sundays in Noe Valley (a day you could guarantee that Andiamo's was closed), or only had a chance to move about the neighborhood after 5:00 pm. Anyway, Andiamo's was certainly frumpy, but it will be missed. Dan and Tom provided a unique service that included beer, cigarettes, regular-guy sandwiches, school lunches for St Phillips, and candy for the afterschool crowd. Anyway, they're moving on, so good for them. In the meantime, I don't really get this new business. I hope it serves a useful purpose, however, at first glance it seems pretty dry. I'd prefer to see more interesting food service businesses, rather than real estate offices, kiddy care, and nail shops.

  5. As a parent, I appreciate that there is a service like this going up. Sounds like fun!

  6. Wow, I am amazed at how rude and ignorant some people in Noe Valley have become. What happened to" if u have nothing nice to say.....". I don't think this blog is for you all.
Do you want to know what Danny and Tom provided? I am a member of St. Philip Church and school and have been for 13 yrs and Danny and Tom have been within the heart of it all. As said earlier, they provided lunches for the kids, they catered funerals and parties. They gave so much to us for free. Sure we paid for the food but they didnt charge us for their unique and oh so entertaining wit and generosity.
They know every child and parents name in the school. They will be missed so much and we just had a farewell dinner for them at the St. Philip's festival dinner. We know they won't go far cuz they will miss us too. Love u guys!
Please folks, keep your negative thoughts on things you don't like and try to keep some of the positive light into the Noe Valley I saw 13 yrs ago when I came here. No problem with anonymity

  7. Hear hear. But you gotta admit, Norine, until someone got snide on the old deli, no one really spoke up about it or their experiences with it. If people don't mention the people who used to be with us in this community, the rest of us will forget, and all that neighborhood history will be lost. Then what will we have? A Marina with more baby strollers.

I like Noe Valley because, like Bernal Heights, it's a kind of "village within a city". But I feel that's been fading fast lately.

  8. The days of an Irish Catholic dominated Noe Valley are long over.

  9. I'm glad they served the St Philips community (for cigarettes?) so well. For those of us who are not part of that community, and like the prior poster said, that's lots of us (thank goodness), it was a non-presence I'm sorry to say. 20 years ago I lived near it, went in once, and quickly went out again.

I pointed it out to my wife as we drove past with my young kids - now it might be useful for at least one of them.

While Noe Valley is certainly NOT the Marina, it's sure been moving in that direction for a while. I guess we all just have to deal with it.

  10. I would have touted Danny and Tom as a great part of our community but I just found the NV Blog. I will do that with other Merchants from now on, good idea
And to the next comment-so glad you are in the Marina.

  12. Ha, I was just being sarcastic, apologies. I've lived in the neighborhood for 11 years, and literally saw it open once (the one time I went in).

I really don't expect anything in Noe to be tony or upscale, but it certainly provides more for the neighborhood when it's open.

  13. Mulls, It doesn't matter you lived in Noe for 11 years, seems like you still don't get it...
