Reader Inquiry: Upper Noe Rec Sandbox is Closed?

It's been less than 2 weeks since the Upper Noe Rec Center grand re-opening and a reader wrote to ask: "... the other day I saw a notice that the sand in the playground was "contaminated" (!) and that area would be closed for clean up." We went to check and sure enough ... the sandbox is closed.


When asked, Rec Center staff said the sand was "very old" and "needed to be replaced." Huh? No word on when it will be completed. The center is otherwise open, and the playground was packed with happy kids (many trying to crawl under the fence to the sand).

So the work continues. In the mean time, if you've let your kids play in said sand? Bath time.
